It might have snowed all day yesterday, but that didn’t stop these little spring hopefuls. Vegan cinnamon muffins and a triple shot decaf latte. Vegan doesn’t have to mean boring, and decaf doesn’t mean I don’t want to taste the espresso. A fine way to start a very cold morning of writing. Ms Janie’s School for Feline Education It’s too early! But this is what happens when your “winter” is 50 degrees for several weeks, I guess. Reading from THE HAUNTED HEART at the Sterling Heights Public Library. Thanks to the Creative Writers Workshop and the Greater Detroit Romance Writers for organizing. Since my writing career launched during the pandemic, this was my first in-person event. I was totally nervous….but I loved it! Looking forward to more opportunities to meet with readers and other writers in the near future. I don’t often go out, but when I do, I tiki. No filters- that’s the actual lighting. I think we all knew this was inevitable, but I somehow had convinced myself I wasn’t going to do it. But really…I’m a fastidious reader of royal gossip, I wrote a royal romance novel, and I’ve studied way too much British history. Of course I bought it. And now I’ll be in a hole all weekend until I’m done reading. Join me at the Sterling Heights Public Library on January 31 for a night of romance readings with authors from the Greater Detroit Romance Writers group. Looking forward to this - my first in-person event! #romance #readersofinstagram #romancereaders #authorsofinstagram I was really inspired by a talk I recently heard about how we mark the passage of time via major milestones, and how (as queer people well know) those milestones can often be socially prescribed. For an author, it might be matching someone else's number of reviews or meeting a sales goal or comparing how many books you and a competitor wrote in the same timeframe. It's damaging to compare our milestones to others', but we often do - to the detriment of celebrating our accomplishments and taking time to savor where we are right now. So, in 2023, that's my goal: running my own race.
